Dear Parents:

How distressed I am to have to write such a letter to you. Please be confident that whatever we need to do to ensure the safety of your child (children), we will do.

The most important thing is to stay alert and listen to the news. In the event of an early dismissal (evacuation), make sure your child/ren know what to do. We will use the plans you sent in this past October. If this has changed, please call school. Make a plan as to how and where you will meet your child(ren). The safest way for them to arrive home is by bus (is this is feasible).

In the even of Shelter-in-Place:

· I will receive a call from government authorities to go to Shelter-in-Place.

· We will follow our Code Blue (Lock-Down).

· Children will be moved to Hallways and then to the auditorium (once it is secure).

· We have already purchased 2 bottles of water per child. This is stored in the auditorium.

· You will be asked to send nonperishable snake items for your child/ren. Put snacks in a zip lock bag labeled with the child's name. Please do this as soon as possible. These will be kept in the homerooms in plastic sealed containers, then sent home in June. (crackers, cookies, Fruit Roll Ups, etc.)

· Floor Wardens have been assigned to get MEDS and a First Aid Kit and bring to the auditorium.

· Teachers have kits with flashlights and activities for students to do to maintain calm.

· We have been assured by local authorities that a crisis team will be sent on-site within minutes.

· We will be in this mode for 3 to 6 hours.

· We will not be allowed to remove the LOCK DOWN until the authorities (Police, Fire Department and/or Crisis Team) call an "All Clear."

· Parents will not be permitted to pick up students until an "All Clear" is issued.

· Be secure in knowing your child/ren will be well cared for until released into your custody.
